In collaboration with the Directors of the La Encrucijada and El Triunfo Biosphere Reserves, we are working towards the implementation of Comprehensive Fire Management Plans (IFMP) for each of the Reserves. These plans have been developed and updated thanks to the donations we receive. The implementation of these IFMPs includes prevention measures, training and equipping fire brigades, fuel management actions, and the construction or maintenance of firebreaks. In addition to these actions, our fire management projects aim to restore ecosystems affected by fires based on an analysis of each ecosystem’s situation and by involving expert groups to design better restoration strategies. We aim for these actions to contribute to fire prevention by addressing the main causes of fires and including components of environmental education and capacity-building, with the ultimate goal of minimizing the impact in case of wildfires.
