Riverbank Restoration
BIOCONNECT
The Bioconnect project is an initiative of the French Development Agency and the Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources with the aim of integrating interinstitutional efforts to contribute to the development of a national policy for ecological connectivity in Mexico and the integrated landscape management.
In Chiapas, Bioconnect is implemented by the Secretariat of Environment and Natural History, with FONCET serving as the trustee for resources to carry out landscape connectivity actions in the Suchiapa River sub-basin. This addresses the environmental issues related to the river and the loss of connectivity along its banks.
We are currently in the fifth phase of Bioconnect, with a pilot project involving 8 livestock producers who have adopted silvopastoral livestock systems and restored 2.4 kilometers of the Suchiapa River’s banks to enhance local diversity and connect the local landscape.
